Step 5
When Should you Give?
Annual giving—anytime throughout the year—is the backbone of financial
stability for chartiable organizations. Your giving might be tied
to a specific time of year as it relates to a program. For example,
your support for children's youth camps might arrive as summer is
approaching.
LEAVING A LEGACY
Giving generously and focusing your giving on a special cause throughout
your life and through your will may enable you to leave a legacy
that continues well beyond your lifetime. West Virginia's community
foundations specialize in helping donors leave legacies that benefit
our state and hometowns. Through a will or other planned gift, donors
also may leave sizeable assets to charities through their community
foundation, including such gifts as real estate, retirement accounts,
and insurance benefits.
With good planning, you can minimize inheritance taxes on your estate and also leave a greater legacy to West Virginia.
